THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force’s (RSIPF’s) Western Provincial Police headquarters in Gizo is currently undergoing major upgrade works.
The upgrade commenced more than a month ago and is making steady progress.
The Gizo police are currently operating from a makeshift office as the upgrade works continue.
Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services Jimson Tanangada, during his recent visit to Gizo to launch his Constituency’s Development program, said this upgrade is supported by the Australian Government.
He pointed that the upgrade works are so important to ensure the Gizo police effectively serve and protect the local communities.
Minister Tanangada said policing infrastructures are pillars of the country’s security and stability.
Major development upgrades to policing and security infrastructures are also underway at Lofang in Shortlands and Noro in Southwest New Georgia.
Minister Tanangada said since taking office, one of his foremost priorities has been to advance the national interests, particularly in the area of security.
“Security is not just about law enforcement. It is the foundation on which we build our future. We cannot have development without security. These two go hand in hand.
“That is why I am so proud to report that we continue to collaborate with our development partners to enhance our national security,” he said.
Minister Tanangada said this progress includes ongoing development of the Lofang Border Infrastructure, the Gizo Police Administration Office and the Noro Police Administrative Infrastructure.
“These projects are not just buildings. They are pillars of our security and stability.”
The Gizo-Kolombangara Member of Parliament (MP) said the Lofang Border Infrastructure, in particular will allow government to better monitor the borders, which is crucial in preventing illegal activities such as trafficking and smuggling, ensuring that the nation remains safe.
“The Gizo and Noro police officers will provide vital support to our local law enforcement, ensuring that we have facilities needed to effectively serve and protect our communities,” he said.
Minister Tanangada highlighted that none of these would have been possible without the generous support of one of the country’s top development partners, which is the government and people of Australia.
“Their financial and technical support had been instrumental in making these initiatives a reality. I extend by heartful thanks to Australia,” he added.
Minister Tanangada took the time to thank his constituents for voting him into office, saying, “this allowed me to support and advance these crucial initiatives.”
