The design team for the China-funded Auki Tar Seal Project paid a visit to Malaita Premier Elijah Asilau last week.
They joined the survey team from China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), which has been on the ground conducting survey work that is expected to last for two weeks.
Upon their arrival, the design team made a courtesy visit to Premier Asilaua and his secretary.
They updated them on their planned activities in Auki.
They discussed the project’s design process and the anticipated start of actual construction, slated for early next year.
Premier Asilaua expressed his full support for the visiting team, stating, “We are brothers.”
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to facilitating CCECC’s preparatory work and the construction of the much-needed tar seal project in Auki.
Premier Asilaua assured CCECC that his office would coordinate with relevant officials for site visits to locations earmarked for the campsite, dumping site, and other necessary areas for the tar seal road project.
He expressed enthusiasm about having CCECC in Auki, highlighting that it indicates a smooth process for the Auki tar seal project.
CCECC is expected to establish their camp by the end of this month, contingent upon site confirmation and preparation in Auki.
According to the project scope, the tar sealing will cover 9.5 kilometers of road, stretching from Kiluufi Hospital to Kwaibala Bridge and including access roads within the town boundary.
The project is projected to take approximately 18 months to complete once construction begins.
