Solomon Islands High Commission Office in Waigani, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Sunday night hosted the Solomon Islands National Squad at a farewell reception.
The farewell dinner was organised to acknowledge and honour the boys following their participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifier in Port Moresby.
The national side played two matches, the first against New Caledonia on Thursday which they narrowly lost, 3-2.
Their last match against host PNG on Sunday ended with a victory which helped to bring back some pride to the boys and the football fans.
Following the match SI High Commissioner His Excellency (H.E) William Soaki, with his family and other members of the Solomon Islands community in Port Moresby who are studying, working and living there were able to host the dinner for the squad to celebrate their win and bid them farewell.
H.E Soaki at the reception also took time to acknowledge their boys for putting on their best performance at the qualifier.
As a strong supporter of the squad, he also took time to watch the boys during the two matches.
Solomon Islands fell short of reaching the semi-finals after being defeated twice.
They settled for the third position in the group table tally.
The national side returned to Honiara on Monday.
They will now concentrate and prepare for the upcoming MSG Prime Ministers Cup which is going to be hosted in Honiara next month.
