THE Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands has created history as the first top diplomat to spend a weekend on Wagina in South Choiseul.
Ambassador Yoshiaki Miwa was invited by the Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Wagina (Ward 1), Tongaua Tabe to witness the handing over of Nikumaroro Community Hall “Te Maneaba” more than a week ago.
He was accompanied by the Coordinator of the Japanese Grassroots and Human Security Projects in Honiara Toshiki Nakagawa.
MPA Tabe told Solomon Star that the Japanese envoy arrived on Friday 8 November on the island and engaged in a number of activities.
“I invited the Japan Ambassador His Excellency Yoshiaki Miwa to visit his Wagina Ward on the 28th October 2024 to witness the completion of Nikumaroro Community Hall “Te Maneaba” built in 2007 under Japanese Grassroots [Assistance] Programme.
“He arrived on Friday the 8th November 2024 and returned to Honiara on Monday 11th November 2024,” he said.
During his time at Wagina, Ambassador Yoshiaki was engaged with various activities such as visiting the primary school, the Wagina secondary school, the seaweed farms as pictured at top and some of the community developments.
The engagement included visits to Wagina Primary School on Friday 8 November and Seaweed farms on the island and Nikumaroro community on Saturday 9 November and the Arnavon Conservation islands, Sacred Heart Primary School and Church developments on Sunday 10 November and
Ambassador Miwa was reportedly pleased with the weekend trip.
