Draw for MSG PM’s Cup places SI in Group A with PNG and New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu in Group B
SOLOMON Islands will be playing in Group A alongside Papua New Guinea in the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Minister’s Cup scheduled for December 10 to 22 in Honiara.
The official draw for the MSG PM’s Cup tournament was held last Friday at the National Stadium Conference Room and Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea have been placed in Group A.
The draw was conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman Jefferey Sade, MSG Sports Development Officer Bill Henry, SIFF Vice President Technical, Robert Seni, SIFF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Leonard Paia and the Ministry of Home Affairs Deputy Secretary Corporate, Freddie Ota’au and Deputy Secretary Technical, Walter Diamana.
Teams are drawn into two Groups A and B with three teams each. The top two teams from the two groups will advance to the knockout stages.
Group A includes two Solomon Islands teams – the National squad and U23 Squad – and Papua New Guinea.
New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu were drawn into Group B.
Solomon Islands as the co-host of the tournament and the defending champions will field in two teams.
This year’s MSG PM’s Cup is the third edition of the tournament. Papua New Guinea hosted the first edition in 2022 and emerged as the champions. New Caledonia hosted the second edition in 2023 which was won by Solomon Islands.
