RULING on a committal hearing conducted on the matter of the two men accused of stabbing another man to death at Gilbert Camp, East Honiara, last October will be delivered today.
Junior Modoa and Bround Baefaka, who have denied the murder charge, will hear whether their case will proceed to the High Court for trial.
Yesterday, the court received the depositions for the Short Form Preliminary Inquiry, prompting Magistrate Emily Zazariko Vagibule Pakoa to adjourn the matter for ruling.
Today, she will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to commit the case to the High Court for trial.
If she finds the evidence sufficient, the defendants will stand trial in the High Court.
However, if she finds the evidence insufficient, the matter will likely be discharged.
The alleged incident occurred on the midnight of 14 October 2024 near the Solomon Water tank at Gilbert Camp, following an argument between the accused and the deceased.
One of the defendants allegedly hit the deceased on the head with a PVC pipe before Modoa allegedly pulled out a short knife and stabbed him in the neck.
The accused then fled the scene.
The deceased managed to walk back to his house where he collapsed and was rushed to the National Referral Hospital.
He was pronounced dead by medical authourities on arrival at the hospital.
