A woman entrepreneur has received a grant for seed money worth SBD5000 from Local Coordinator for Academy for Women Entrepreneur (AWE) in Honiara on Friday.
Dr. Donna Marie Wate, delivered the money to Better Akao, who owns Betzla Arts and Crafts shop at the Art Gallery Arts and Crafts Center on Thursday.
This is the first seed money granted to an entrepreneur after the first AWE Solomon Islands 2024 Cohort of 30 women who graduated in December last year.
Mrs. Akao registered Betzla Arts and Crafts shop back in 2021 and has been running and operating since then (despite the short break during Covid-19 pandemic).
She expressed her appreciation for being selected to be granted the seed money for her arts and crafts shop.
She said that she very happy and grateful to receive the grant and that she is looking forward to use it build her business.
AWE is a U.S Department of State Program supporting women entrepreneurs around the world. This academy equips women with practical skills needed to create sustainable business enterprises. This includes creating business plans and raising capital, with the goal of building a better future for their families and communities.
