THE country is expecting chances of rainfall for the first quarter of this year from January until March, the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) says this week.
SIMS said the seasonal outlook for December 2024 based on two months average value of November and December 2024 of the Central Eastern and South Western Pacific Ocean sea-surface temperature anomalies presents chances of rainfall from January to March of 2025.
It said the status of the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently in neutral range, despite of the recent changes in oceanic and atmospheric indicators which have recently met the threshold for La Niña.
SIMS said these, however, have not been sustained for levels or duration sufficient to warrant La Niña status, thus ENSO in the tropical Pacific still remained neutral for the past six months.
