The controversial zebra (pedestrian) crossing located infront of the AJ City in Lunga, East Honiara has been sealed off over the weekend to restrict anymore crossing.
On Saturday, a contractor has been tasked to erect new rail to close off the zebra crossing denying pedestrians from crossing the busy road.
Its understood the changes came through the advise of responsible authorities.
Contracted workers on Saturday placed the rail which means, all crossings infront of the AJ City is now restricted.
As of Saturday, pedestrians have started crossing the road using both ends of the rail.
It also means, pedestrians need to be extra careful before crossing the busy highway during peak traffic period during the mornings and evenings.

Since the establishment of the pedestrian crossing in 2023, it had resulted in delays to traffic flow coming in from both ends of AJ City due to increased crossing by pedestrians infront of AJ City each morning and evening.
Most times the traffic queue even reached the Henderson Airport from the east side and at Kastom Gaden from the west side.
And this had caused so much frustrations amongst drivers and commuters.
The presence of police during the mornings and evening to control the flow of traffic also helped at times but police is not always visible.

And because of the ongoing situation, members of the public and vehicle owners have called for the removal of the zebra crossing. Others called for the establishment of a traffic light in that area to control movement.
And its now a relief for many road users to see the crossing now closed.
A driver said, its a welcoming move and action taken by responsible authorities to close off that section because it would now enable the traffic to flow freely without delays during the peak times in the mornings and later in the evenings.
West bound traffic coming in from the GPPOL and Henderson area this week can now enjoy their ride into the city without much delay.
