THE body of man found trapped in debris in the upper Balasuna River in Guadalcanal Province on Monday has been identified by his relatives.
The body has been identified by relatives after several calls were made on Facebook on Monday for the identification.
The body was found by children from Koleasi Community who were looking for prawns and fish.
Samson Churu, who is familiar with the story, told Solomon Star in an interview on Tuesday that relatives of the deceased have retrieved his body for burial at Kouvasa village.
He said the deceased was trying to cross the flooded river on Sunday night when he met his fate.
Mr Churu said the deceased lived in Kouvasa and was heading to Mabulunakake.
“At 6am on Monday, when children went to look for prawns and fish after the flood, they discovered the body of late Willie Mani trapped in debris and covered by sand.
“The relatives took the body of late Mani to Kouvasa village to make his formal burial,” he added.
People who saw the Facebook post by Churu shared their condolences with the immediate family of the deceased.
