The Western Provincial Government (WPG) has come under fire for its failure to properly maintain and utilize an abandoned government office building in Munda Western Province.
And this had sparked criticism from residents and leaders alike.
The building, originally intended to house key government offices, has been left to deteriorate for years.
Overgrown with vegetation, riddled with structural damage, and now serving as an eyesore in the Munda Lambete station, the structure has become a stark symbol of mismanagement and neglect.
Frustrated locals have voiced their disappointment, with many questioning why the WPG has failed to act despite ongoing concerns.
“This building was meant to serve the people, yet it has been left to rot,
”We need accountability from our leaders,” a concerned resident from Munda told Solomon Star in an interview this week.
Former provincial officials have also weighed in, blaming poor planning and lack of prioritization by the previous current administration.
Calls have intensified for immediate action to either renovate the structure or repurpose it for community use.
A senior government source, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the issue but pointed to financial constraints as a major hurdle.
“We recognize the problem, but funding for maintenance and development has been a challenge,” the source said.
Despite the explanations, public outrage continues to mount. Many believe the failure to properly utilize the building reflects a broader issue of governance and resource management within the province.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Public Accounts Committee (PPAC) members already left on a tour to visit and assess and ensure that all PCDF-funded projects align with the required standards and meet the intended objectives of improving service delivery and infrastructure development in the province.
However whilst criticism has been fuelled recently in the social media about the post about the abandoned failed WPG’ offices building, this has put a fresh big slap on previous and current government administration to overlooked active office building which has been deteriorating for quite many years.
Western Province Premier could not be reached for comments yesterday.
As calls for action grow louder, pressure is mounting on the WPG to provide a clear plan for the abandoned office building. Whether the government will respond to the concerns remains to be seen, but the people of Munda are demanding answers and accountability from their leaders.
