In a recent meeting, Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele lauded Solomon Airlines for its commitment to innovation and service enhancement.
He expressed appreciation for the airlines’ proactive approach in navigating the evolving aviation landscape.
During the courtesy visit, Solomon Airlines Board Chair Mr. Frank Wickham and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sean Teó provided Prime Minister Manele with updates on the airlines challenges, opportunities, and strategic expansion plans.
They discussed efforts to maintain the airlines’ regional prominence and competitiveness, particularly in light of the changing viability of traditional routes.
Prime Minister Manele acknowledged the airlines strategic shift, noting that the introduction of new routes, such as the Auckland to Brisbane and the upcoming Auckland to Tongatapu starting in April 2025, exemplifies Solomon Airlines’ adaptability and forward-thinking approach.
The Prime Minister also welcomed discussions with international partners regarding aircraft upgrades, especially for domestic services.
He emphasized the importance of fleet renewal and optimization to meet operational challenges effectively.
Expressing his support, Prime Minister Manele stated, “Solomon Airlines’ willingness to venture beyond its traditional comfort zones is commendable. The new Auckland to Brisbane route is particularly significant, as it strengthens connections with the Pacific diaspora and aligns with the Government’s National Unity and Transformation Policy, especially in the tourism sector.”
Highlighting the airlines’ pivotal role in national tourism development, Prime Minister Manele remarked, “with visionary planning, the government’s goal of attracting 100,000 annual visitors by 2035 is within reach.”
The importance of government and Honiara based regional and international organizations supporting Solomon Airlines, reinforcing its status as the nation’s preferred carrier was emphasised.
Prime Minister Manele also commended Solomon Airlines’ new partnership with the Solomon Islands National Sports Council, noting that this collaboration will provide essential support for athletes competing in regional and international competitions.
This engagement underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a robust and innovative national airline that contributes significantly to the country’s economic and social development.
