A driver narrowly escapes serious injury after a three-tonne vehicle he was driving crashed into the White River SDA church compound in West Honiara this morning.
The incident occurred around 11.30am along the Agape road.
It was revealed the vehicle was on its way down the concrete road .
As it came past the Agape school, the brake could no longer hold, few of the witnesses said.
As a result the vehicle started rolling down the concrete road, hit the fence located close to SDA Pastor’s house, rolled down the slope and crashed into the church compound.
It came to a halt after hitting the stage house which is normally used by the church members to conduct their outdoor programs.
Fortunately the driver emerged from vehicle with no major injury except bruises to his right hand.
He was assisted by some members of the public before being quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The driver was alone inside the truck.
The front part of vehicle sustained damages.
Witnesses said, fortunately no pedestrians and vehicles were hit when the incident occurred. Otherwise it could have been a different story.
The vehicle was carrying fencing materials.
Its understood investigation into the incident is now underway.
