SOCCER lovers from Kobito 1 and 2 areas in East Honiara are calling on their MP for east Honiara and current Deputy Prime Minister Douglas Ete to upgrade their soccer fields.
The group told this paper that they want the current Kobito 1 soccer field to be upgraded and improved this year.
A spokesman John Samo said, that these facilities must be improved to bring changes in the communities.
“Soccer is one of things that can help to reduce crime rates in the communities and in order for that to happen, it needs the hands of our MPs to upgrade sporting facilities in the communities,” Mr Samo stated.
He highlighted the Kobito 1 facility was established many years ago and yet was overlooked.
“Leaders failed to upgrade it leaving the boys to play on the muddy ground like pigs,” Mr Samo said.
He said that they want something to be done to the facilities in the communities to develop the young people living in the communities.
Meanwhile, a visit by this paper to that field this week saw that Kobito 1 soccer field needs to be upgraded.
This is because that field is usually used for Christmas games, Easter games and other important events such church services.
Mr Samo appealed to Mr Ete to prioritize their call and find ways to improve the sport facilities in the communities.
