A man in his 30’s from Neo Village, Santa Cruz Island in the Temotu Province has been sentenced by the Lata Resident Magistrate on 26 November 2019 after being found guilty of illegal brewing of alcohol.
The incident in which the man was convicted of happened between 16 and 19 October 2019 at Neo Village on Santa Cruz Island.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) in Temotu Province, Superintendent James Toaki explains: “The man has been sentenced by the court and he has been ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 within 14 days and if he fails he will be sent to prison for two months.”
“This is the result of hard work by investigators and cooperation from members of the public who assisted with the investigation,” adds PPC Toaki.
PPC Toaki says, “I would like to encourage my officers and the public at large in Temotu to continue working together to make sure those who break the law are brought to face justice, so that the minority of people who intend to break the law think twice.”
The brewing of alcohol without the written approval from the Minister responsible is an offence under the Lliquor Act.
