Western Province men’s football team’s chance of taking the lead in Group A of the Solomon Games football competition faded following their 3-0 defeat to host Honiara at the Lawson Tama Stadium.
Sunday’s performance was not what their fans and supporters had expected.
Turtles found it hard to find the back of the net unlike their first two matches.
They were trailing by a goal to nil by half time.
It became worse for them when Honiara scored another two goals which gave the Turtles less hope of leveling the score as time was also ticking towards the finish.
It was a bad day for the Turtles who started off well with a 2-2 draw with Temotu and a 4-2 win against Central Province.
They now remain on fourth place with four points while Temotu leads with seven points, Isabel second with five points and Honiara also with four points and a goal difference of two.
They have one more group match to play and it is a must win to keep their hopes alive for the second stage of the competition.
Matches will continue today starting at 10am this morning.
First up today will see Guadalcanal and Lauru at 10am and Malaita taking on Renbell at 12pm.
