THE Malaita Province Youth Council has expressed its gratitude following the receipt of $3 million for the construction of a historic Malaita Youth Hub.
In 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) and the Malaita Provincial Government for an initial budget $5 million.
This initiative is part of MWYCFA’s development plan for Malaita and is seen as a significant steps toward its implementation.
However, in February this year, both parties re-signed the initial MOU with a revised budget of $3 million.
Malaita Province Youth Council President Philip Subu this week announced that the funds are now with the Malaita Provincial Government.
He thanked the national government and dedicated government officials for prioritizing the project.
“I confirm that the $3 million is now with the Malaita Provincial Government,” Mr Subu stated.
“On behalf of the Malaita Provincial Youth Council Executive, I would like to convey our sincere gratitude to the MWYCFA Minister Honourable Freda Tuki, Permanent Secretary Dr CedrickAlependava, Youth Division Director Andrea Tipoki, Malaita Provincial Youth Coordinator Frank Samo Sari for the funding provided for the establishment of the Malaita Youth and Children Hub.”
Mr Subu assured the youths of Malaita that the council will collaborate with the Provincial Youth Coordinator and the Malaita Provincial Secretary to ensure the funds are used appropriately and that work commences promptly.
“I assure our young people that we will work closely with the Provincial Youth Coordinator and Malaita Provincial Secretary to ensure we utilize the funds for their intended purpose and commence work on time.”
Reports indicate that Malaita is one of four provinces receiving funding from the national government for youth hub projects.
Only the Western Province has successfully implemented its project, Isabel and Temotu are facing challenges in moving forward.
