The Acting Premier of Guadalcanal Province Rolland Seleso has condemned the alleged attack on students of Ruavatu Provincial Secondary School on North-East Guadalcanal over the weekend.
According to reports, one female student was allegedly raped in nearby bushes while others were injured in the attack.
Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Rapid Response Team and Guadalcanal Police who managed to quell the rampage believe the attackers are from the nearby villages.
Mr Seleso described the attack as barbaric, inhumane and disrespectful.
“The villagers are supposed to be the good host of the province’s premier education institution.”
He said people who indecently assaulted the students and raped the female student have no place in communities but “rightly belong to penitentiary institutions”.
The Premier urged nearby villagers of Ruavatu School to cooperate with police to arrest the attackers.
The students were celebrating their graduation day on Friday October 31 when the thugs entered the school.
Meanwhile, the Guadalcanal Provincial Government, its Education Authority and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development are discussing what will happen to the school as its students will sit their examinations this week.
But the students have since been evacuated from the school and they will likely sit their exams elsewhere.
