Acting Prime Minister Bradley Tovosia took time out on Tuesday afternoon to watch the beach soccer match at SIFF academy in East Honiara.
Tovosia who is also the Minister for Mines and Energy has demonstrated his support and passion for sports by witnessing and cheering on Team Bilikiki as the OFC Beach Soccer Men’s Nations Cup tournament kicked off at the SIFF Academy, Honiara Tuesday afternoon.
Acting Prime Minister Tovosia believes that sports is the glue that holds the nation together.
“It binds and unite us. It brings the best out of us, as individuals and collectively as a nation,” he said.
SIFF’s world class beach soccer pitch is a source of immense pride for the government and people of Solomon Islands.
It symbolises the government’s commitment to nurture the country’s soccer talent.
The facility is not a mere structure, it birthed the country’s premier, state- of -the-art Football Academy, setting a gold standard in the Pacific.
Day one of the competition saw new comer Papua New Guinea (PNG) beating Fiji earlier in the day before the Beach champions Tahiti narrowly defeated the Bilikiki boys in an entertaining match which ended in 10-9 in favour of Tahiti.
The Bilikiki will take on Papua New Guinea next in day two of the clash on Wednesday.
