Dear Editor – I am writing to express my concern about the continued neglect of public services in rural areas of the Solomon Islands, particularly in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
The lack of access to basic services in these regions stems largely from poor governance and the mismanagement of resources.
Rural communities suffer due to underfunded health clinics, poorly maintained roads, and inadequate schools.
For example, health clinics in Malaita are often understaffed and underfunded, and many roads in Guadalcanal are impassable due to poor maintenance. It is disheartening to see that despite the available resources, they are often mishandled or diverted, leaving vulnerable populations without the services they need.
The government must prioritize effective management and accountability to ensure that all Solomon Islanders receive equal access to essential services, regardless of where they live.
Sincerely,
Nidu Sanjani Liyanage
