THE Australian Federal Police (AFP) has delivered an SBD$7.5 million (AUD$1.325 million) support package to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
The support package, which was delivered through the RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Programme (RAPPP) and Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF), will support and enhance the RSIPF capabilities in preparation for the Pacific Games in November and beyond.
AFP Assistant Commissioner, Nigel Ryan, who is visiting Honiara, delivered the equipment to RSIPF Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, in a ceremony held at the RSIPF Rove Headquarters on Wednesday.
Amongst other things, the support package includes are public order management equipment, police uniforms, laptop computers and traffic and road safety equipment.
RSIPF Commissioner Mangau and AFP Assistant Commissioner Ryan signed a certificate for the gift handover, which was witnessed by RSIPF, RAPPP and SIAF executive members.
Commissioner Mangau said the support was yet another result of the strong partnership and cooperation between the AFP and RSIPF.
He said the gifts would further support and enhance the RSIPF capabilities in preparation for the Pacific Games 2023 and thereafter.
“Security is the important role of the RSIPF and the gifts from the AFP will support the RSIPF in boosting its ability in carrying our security operations during the PG23, providing safe and green games and thereafter,” Commissioner Mangau said.
In response, AFP Assistant Commissioner Ryan said it was an honour for the AFP to support the RSIPF with the security overlay for the Pacific Games.
“I want to thank Commissioner Mangau and his executive team for their ongoing cooperation and support as part of the Pacific family.
“The equipment will help the RSIPF to provide a safe, secure and green Pacific Games for competitors, spectators, residents and visitors in the Solomon Islands.”
