NATIONAL carrier Solomon Airlines has announced the suspension of its weekly services to Atoifi, East Kwaio, Malaita due to safety reasons.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, Solomon Airlines said, “Effective immediately, Solomon Airlines has suspended all services to Atoifi Airport.”
The Airlines attributed safety concerns related to the poor runway condition as the main reason.
“This decision follows a thorough assessment by our Safety and Security Department, which determined that the current runway conditions do not meet our minimum safety standards.
“Your safety is our top priority. We deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause, but the well-being of our passengers, crew, and aircraft is paramount.”
Solomon Airlines said, it is working closely with the relevant authorities to address these issues and restore safe operating conditions as quickly as possible.
The Airlines Safety Manager: “Safety is our number one priority. This decision, though difficult, is necessary to ensure the highest level of safety for our customers and crew.
“We are in constant communication with the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI) to resolve this matter,” said Daniel Bugotu, Manager of Safety at Solomon Airlines.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to resume services to Atoifi Airport safely. We will keep you informed of any developments,” the statement said.
