THE outstanding issues with water and toilet facilities at the airport terminals will be fixed soon once the 2015 national budget is passed.
Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Aviation and Communication Francis Lomo revealed this yesterday.
He said, a team has already compiled a work program to identify specific areas that will be upgraded.
“One of which is to fix the water and toilet problem at both the national and domestic terminals at Henderson International airport.”
Mr Lomo added the Ministry has been faced with challenges related to how the water and toilet systems were built.
“Because the facilities were ordered directly from Japan and it is quite difficult to replace them. If we want to fix the current problem with the cisterns, we have to do an overhaul to the system because it was built with Japanese material and style,” Lomo said.
He further highlighted that another difficulty is with water. “When the electricity powered pumps stopped during power outages its affects the flow of water to the terminals.”
Mr Lomo explained these problems have already been considered in their work program and hopefully when the 2015 budget is passed, the problem will be fixed.
He said, they have a standby generator but it is only to supply power to the runway lights but not for water.
Lomo said they plan to dig new water bore holes and power that to the terminals to address the water issues.
The PS said, when funds are ready, they will tender the jobs to be done before the end of the year.
