THE Honiara city council (HCC) law enforcement officers have been commended for assisting the police apprehending a murder suspect.
Chairman of the Law Enforcement Division of the Honiara City Council, Charles Aiwosuga made the acknowledgement following an incident which left a youth dead at the King George market, East Honiara over the weekend. It was believed to be alcohol related.
With a quick response by the HCC law Enforcement patrol officers, they managed to apprehend the suspect and took him to the police station.
Aiwosuga thanked the community for their assistance and also to maintain peace during the incident and encouraged everyone to let the police handle the matter.
He said they will be looking at reviewing the current HCC act to allow HCC officers with the power to assist police in arrests within the jurisdiction of Honiara City.
The Chairman further made an appeal to the community to help the police monitor illegal selling of kwaso to reduce such crimes from happening.
He said the Law Enforcement officers will always assist the police and communities within the City, to monitor such behaviors.
