CONSTRUCTION of the SBD 4 million Dining Hall Project for Aligegeo Provincial Secondary in Malaita Province has commenced and is progressing well.
The school dining hall was razed by fire on August 2019, leaving students to use the school’s incomplete chapel building as both dining and assembly hall.
In response to the disaster, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) stepped in with the project in 2022.
The project was expected to be completed last year but the national government’s focus of finances on the hosting of the 17th Pacific Games in 2023 prolonged the completion of the project.
With the games successfully hosted and gone, the national government through MEHRD has resumed the implementation of the project.
A visit to the school last week by Solomon Star, saw the work on the foundation of the new hall taking shape.
Material for the project had been delivered to the project site in preparation for the construction phase which started off with the foundation phase last week.
Deputy Principal Stefano Fanakui welcomed the commencement of the foundation work on the project and the progress made so far.
Mr Fanakui said the school is looking forward for the successful completion of the project, which will allow students to have their meals in the appropriate facility.
