WORK to upgrade Aligegeo Football Stadium has finally started on Monday this week in Auki, Malaita Province.
The project is part of the National Government’s commitment through the Ministry of Home Affairs to support provinces upgrade their sporting facilities.
Work on Aligegeo Football Stadium will cover expansion of the current grand stand building, installation of a plumbing system for bathrooms, installation of two water tanks and fencing of the current futsal court.
Director of Architect and Building Management Service ABMS of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development MID Philip Baura said the project is to upgrade the existing grand stand area to 10 meters on both sides.
He added that all the old and wooden materials at the current grand stand building will be removed and replace, the plumbing systems will be installed including two water tanks and clearance of drainage.
He said that the project gears towards preparations for the 2023 Pacific Games.
The upgrade project, which cost about $1million, is expected to complete within three month.
Representatives from Solomon Power, Solomon water, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development MID, Malaita Sports Division, Malaita Province Planning Division, Deputy Provincial Secretary, Provincial Minister for Sport and members of the media were part of team that visited the project site at Aligegeo this week.
