A young man who allegedly involved in an armed robbery with two others on New Year’s at the new fuel/gas station at Lungga cross-road, have been charged.
Twenty-four year-old Anthony Cecil is facing one count of armed robbery and another of possession of firearms and ammunition in certain areas.
He is currently in custody after a custodial remand.
His legal case was mentioned on Tuesday in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court in his absence and was further adjourned to January 27.
All custodial matters were being mentioned since the court vacation last year in all accuseds’ absence because no escorts were available to take them to the courts, until their next appearance, which is on the January 27.
Cecil’s co-accused known only as Leri and Bonavesi, are still on the run. No other names were supplied to police.
Police alleged that on the early hours on the New Year’s Day this year, the trio entered the GTL refiling station armed with a gun.
They allegedly entered the area using the back fence, and went straight to one of the three security officers who was sleeping at that time, woke him up and pointed the gun to his face.
They then allegedly went and locate another security at the back of the compound and also held the gun to his face.
It was further alleged while they were tying up the security’s hand with a tape; the third security guard saw them, came and grabbed the gun off the accused.
The security allegedly struggled with Cecil and managed to get hold of him.
Two of Cecil co-accused however managed to escape.
The matter was then reported to police and Cecil was arrested, charged and remanded in custody.
