A suspected secret move to reshuffle the current Malaita provincial secretary to Makira/Ulawa Province has forced the Suidani government to pass a resolution last Friday.
The Malaita provincial government executive came up with the resolution for the Provincial Secretary Fredrick Fa’abasua to remain in the province.
Reports received by the Solomon Star said the move was to see the Ministry of Provincial Government & Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS) push for the reshuffling of Mr. Fa’abasua to be the new provincial secretary for Makira/Ulawa Province.
The secret move has sparked public concern in Auki and Malaitans who want to see a change in the administration of the province thus paved the way for the resolution.
“The plan to remove the Malaita PS to Makira was masterminded by few insiders of provincial government administration and a provincial assembly member,” a provincial government informant said.
Speaking to this paper in an interview, Premier Daniel Suidani said his executive has passed the resolution based on the interest of Malaitans for the current provincial secretary to remain with the province.
Mr. Suidani explained that the current PS has been helping the province to revive its administration compared to the past administration.
“Through Mr. Fa’abasua’s efforts, the province is starting to operate back to normal.
“The people of Malaita are happy and satisfied with the current PS and they don’t want him to be removed,” he said based on the outcome of the resolution.
Meanwhile, he added that if the ministry remove the current PS to Makira/Ulawa Province, it means that the government did not respect the rights of the provincial executive and people of Malaita Province.
Comments are being sought from the Ministry of Provincial Government & Institutional Strengthening (MPGIS).
