LOCAL government sponsored students studying at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) are still to received their allowances.
Solomon Islands National University Student Association (SINUSA) executive has informed this paper yesterday that almost 75 percent of students attending SINU have raised complaints and even showed frustration to the SINUSA executive.
SINUSA newly elected treasurer, Erickson Rurai said a number of students said, the delay is affecting their studies as they are experiencing financial difficulties to print their assignments, notes and to concentrate on their studies.
“They are currently having financial difficulties in terms of daily bus fares, food and other necessities.
“This has become a burden to our families because we have to ask for bus fares daily and also for money to meet other necessities,” Rurai said.
He added, authorities should understand that some of these students come from the provinces and live with relatives in town.
“At times, they would get mad at the students for not giving a hand to support them one way or another.”
He said the students now have only two weeks left before their exams and then they will go home for their holiday, thus they deserved the right to education.
