NEWLY appointed Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea (PNG) Barnabas Anga will leave the country for Port Moresby tomorrow.
He confirmed this to the Solomon Star, Wednesday this week.
“I will be leaving for PNG this Saturday to take up the office,” Commissioner Anga added.
He said that his contract will last him three years.
“I’m the 10th of Solomon Islands High Commissioners to PNG and I’m happy to take up this role,” he added.
Commissioner Anga said that it was important for him to stay there to maintain the link between two countries.
He said, its his first time to take up such important role but he believes he can do all his best in the job in PNG.
“Thank you Solomon Islands for entrusting the top job to me,” Anga said.
He added that he is looking forward to work together with the two countries PNG and Solomon Islands during his three years contract starting from this year and onwards.
Mr Anga was commissioned early last month to take up the new post.
He was a former Permanent Secretary and long-time public servant.
Mr Anga has previously served as Permanent Secretary in a number of Ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Govenor General Sir Frank Kabui durig the commissioning ceremony congratulated Mr Anga as Solomon Islands Chief Representative in Papua New Guinea, describing his choice as “no accident”.
“I am confident that you are eminently fitted, both in your personal qualities and experience in the affairs of the State for the charge that the Government of Solomon Islands has entrusted on you and to which you have now pledged your allegiance,” Sir Frank said.
