International Anti-corruption Day 2019 will be celebrated today in Honiara.
As part of the event a parade will take place this morning from 8.30am from the Honiara City Council (HCC) car park all the way down to the Museum Auditorium.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare will deliver the keynote address.
Parliament made a special adjournment to allow all Members of Parliament to participate in the program.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) said OPMC together with the accountability agencies of Solomon Islands government in partnering with other relevant stakeholders, Non-Government Organisations and development Partners will be hosting and organising event to mark the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD).
The event falls on 9th December every year and for this year 2019, Solomon Islands Government and its partners are preparing to host the event on that day.
The IACD main event and activities will be staged at the Art National Museum Auditorium.
“The aim is to remind ourselves and the public on the negative impacts of corruption and how corruption hinders Solomon Island’s development,” the statement said.
The IACD theme for 2019 is “United Against Corruption”.
Members of the public and other stakeholders are being invited to join in the program.
