ANZ has announced that it would donate SBD$200, 000 (approximately AUD$30,000) relief effort in the country.
The donation will be channelled through World Vision to support disaster relief work following last week’s devastating floods.
A statement from the bank said ANZ’s donation to World Vision International in the Solomon Islands will be used to support rehabilitation efforts including the provision of shelter, clothing, sleeping mats, blankets and other essential items.
ANZ CEO Solomon Islands Geoffrey Buchanan said: “We are deeply saddened by the devastating impact the flash floods have had on the people of the Solomon Islands, with some tragically losing their lives and many thousands now left without a home.
“We would like to extend our condolences to those who have lost loved ones and friends and we hope this donation will go some way to assisting the important relief efforts currently underway across the country.”
ANZ has operated in the Solomon Islands for around 50 years and has four branches, 13 ATMs and employs more than 120 staff across the country.
