ANZ has won the global award for Best Digital Channels Strategy under the prestigious 2014 Retail Banker International Awards in recognition of its mobile phone banking application tailored for the Pacific markets.
ANZ goMoney Pacific was launched in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Samoa in 2013, and in Vanuatu earlier this year to provide a new and convenient way for customers to do their everyday banking using their mobile phones.
“This is a great recognition of the value of putting our customers, our communities and technology at the centre of our strategy, in a region where about 75% of the population still don’t have access to banking services, mainly due to geographical restrictions,” said ANZ CEO Pacific & CEO Fiji, Vishnu Mohan.
Mohan added that ANZ goMoney Pacific is of particular value to people in remote areas who can store their money securely in a bank account and access it via their mobile phones or a nearby ANZ goMoney merchant, rather than travelling to a branch.
“ANZ takes its responsibility to the communities in which we operate very seriously,” said Mr Mohan.
“In this case we have been recognised for introducing a digital channel to our Pacific business driven by our very strong corporate sustainability agenda.”
Mohan said that since launching ANZ goMoney Pacific, customers using the platform in PNG, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu have made over 1.4 million transactions.
