A FAMILY in Honiara is desperately appealing to the general public for donations to meet medical expenses for three month old Israel Rovaly Katara.
Baby Israel is diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) – a defect of the heart in which his two main arteries carrying blood out of his heart are switched in position.
The baby’s uncle William Wilder told Solomon Star last night that Baby Israel has been in and out of hospital since his birth on 15th October 2021 and last week they have been told that the hospital here could no longer help him.
“Our only option now is to take Baby Israel overseas to undergo urgent surgery as he now has little chance to live.
“We are asking for all the help we can get to help save him before it is too late,” Mr Wilder said.
He said a GoFundMe page has been set up for donations online and family members are also organising fundraising activities towards this cause.
The family is planning to send Baby Israel to India for his surgery. He will be accompanied by his parents and the cost of getting the baby and his parents to India as well as other expenses is about SBD$180,000.
This is the amount the family need to raise urgently.
