AN online financial appeal is underway in an attempt to save a young man from a bone infection affecting his face after the extraction of one of his teeth.
The appeal made through a ‘Go Fund Me’ page and was organised by Australian Simon Lewis to secure funds to get Brandon over to Australia under a medical visa for further medical treatment.
Mr Lewis, who initiated the appeal, said Brandon is in a ‘horrible amount of pain.’
He said, the young man developed Osteomyelitis bone infection after the removal of a tooth as well as further operation by doctors without evidence to begin operating on the affected area.
“Now the doctors in the Solomon Islands cannot help him any further and do not know what else to do for him and don’t have the medical equipment to run the right tests to find out what type of infection it actually is in order to give him the right antibiotics.
“When he was in hospital in Honiara recently, they had him on an intravenous antibiotic but they kept running out of the stuff so they would send him home or keep him waiting in the hospital bed, so the only option for him is an Australian Medical visa.
“Please, please we need your help with the money side of things. I can do everything else to do his visa and support him with accommodation and transport whilst he is here,” Mr Lewis said.
Those who wish to support Brandon can contact Mr Lewis if they can be his sponsors or know anyone else that might be inclined to this kind of thing for him in Australia under the Medical Visa process.
The appeal aims to secure around AUD$20,000 to meet all the necessary costs.
It is understood at the moment only politicians, the rich or well-connected in Solomon Islands can access such healthcare services in Australia.
Brandon’s problem started in March this year and the appeal was launched since then.
However, his condition continues to deteriorate in the past months and if he does not get the right treatment his eyes and face will be badly affected.
