THE Asia Pacific Sustainable Development Rural Training Center (APSD) in Fiu central Kwara’ae Malaita province yesterday opened its door for enrollment.
The Japanese funded training centre started way back in 2001 with one specific course agriculture and this year has opened again with another six courses more.
The six additional courses are; life skills, carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, electrical and business and agriculture which are the old ones.
Speaking during the conduction program on Monday, principal Reuben Moli said, that agriculture and business were the compulsory courses at the center.
Mr Moli said, that the aim of the center is to train students who were being pushed out of formal schools to become somebody at their communities.
“We want to train you to become somebody at your village and where ever you live.”
He added, that as the country has experienced a lot of social issues happening around with young people, it is good that we engaged these young people to utilise their talents and skills in order to make money for themselves.
“Our centre has introduced another six additional courses this year due to demand for those courses is high at the moment in the country.
“We saw that there is a need that those courses must be undertaken here.Therefore this year we will undertaken them.
He added, that this year the number of new applicants went up to about 200 students with the number expecting to reach about 300-400.
The induction program was attended by Malaita premier Peter Chanel Ramohia and his delegation, chiefs and other important people and students to do their registrations.
The center has offered two years courses for students.
Mr Moli thanked the premier Ramohia for spending his time just to witness the induction program at the school.
