LOCAL archers gave their best shots in the first day of the 2018 World Archery Oceania Championship in New Caledonia, Tuesday this week.
Even though it’s an uphill battle for Solomon Islands against their much experienced Oceania opponents, local archers gave the best on day one.
President of the Archery Federation of Solomon Islands (AFSI) Nihal Seneviratne was delighted with the overall performance of the team.
“Our archers did their best and I am satisfied with their performance,’’ Seneviratne said from New Caledonia.
In the men’s recurve action on Tuesday,Andrew Lano and Soper Alpaheus Piper settled in the 9th and 10th positions, ahead of two Papua New Guinea athletes.
Kelly Baedonga was at the bottom of the table.
Seneviratne said Lano and Piper’s win over their PNG opponents was a good result for the country.
“It shows we are improving since archery was a new sport in the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, our three women athletes could not withstand their opponents by settling at the bottom of the table with Nancy Pize on 9th spot, Janet Saru on 10thand Doris Laula at the bottom.
The competition continues today.
