THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) under the leadership of Premier Elijah Asilaua’s executive places much priority on economic development in an effort to create job opportunities for Malaitans and boost the local economy.
Premier Elijah Asilaua highlighted this in his speech at the 41st Malaita Province Second Appointed Day celebration in Auki on Thursday.
This year’s celebration was unprecedented as apart from the attendance of the Prime Minister, all Malaita MPs, including Cabinet Ministers and backbenchers and those in the Opposition and Independent groups, and key aid donors – China, Australia, Japan and the United States also graced the occasion.
Seizing the opportunity of this historic occasion, Premier Asilaua underscored his government’s commitment to create job opportunities and foster local entreprenuership, particularly in the agricultural sector.
He stressed the importance of engaging communities in micro-enterprises to stimulate economic growth but further highlighted that the development and maintenance of key infrastructures are prerequisites to sustaining economic growth and social advancement.
On that note, he announced that his government through support from the national government and the country’s aid donors, is investing in bridges, roads and communication networks to connect communities and facilitate commercial activities for economic growth and promote and ensure self-reliance.
Premier Asilaua assured that MPG under the leadership of his executive is committed to collaborate with citizens and development partners to build a brighter future for everyone in Malaita.
He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the national government and donor partners for their support during the COVID-19 global pandemic towards the rehabilitation of the Kiluufi Hospital and enhancement of mental healthcare services.
He also emphasized the importance of gender-equality by ensuring women are included in all decision-making processes.
