THE case of the man accused of stabbing his former wife and killing her unborn child early this year at a settlement in Honiara has been further adjourned to April 18.
This is to allow prosecution to obtain two other medical reports from the doctor and for Willie Maelafia to follow up on his request to the Public Solicitor’s Office for a lawyer.
Public Prosecutor Elma Rizzu said prosecution had only received one of the three medical reports they had requested.
She said two other medical reports are yet to be provided by the doctor who attended the anti-natal.
She added that she had hoped to receive those reports yesterday but the doctor did not get back to them.
The medical report is on the condition of the baby during the operation on the mother.
She intends to make a memo to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the charge but added that that would be made once all medical reports are received.
Maelafia told the court that he had made several requests to the Public Solicitor’s Office but no lawyer had visited him as of yet.
He is facing one count of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his former wife who was about seven to eight months pregnant at that time of the alleged offending.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 7 at Feraladoa, a back way settlement in Central Honiara.
Prosecution alleged this is not the first time the accused mistreated the alleged victim since they were separated in 2015.
Maelafia and his former wife were separated in 2015 and his wife had since then been living with another man.
It was alleged on the day of the alleged offending; the alleged victim was at home when the accused came and stabbed her.
