The Office of the Auditor General is yet to refer the reports of mismanagement of Covid-19 funds to the Police for investigation.
Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau revealed this in a press conference yesterday when asked whether his office had received any referrals from the Auditor General’s office.
“At this time, I’m yet to sit with the Auditor General to look at the report before the referrals are forwarded to our office,” Mr Mangau said.
When asked again why no referrals were made since a report was already made, Mr Mangau said, according to our laws, there has to be a complainant before a case is established.
“So the Auditor General has to refer the matters for investigation or put it in the form of referrals for us to deal with,” he explained.
The Office of the Auditor General (AOG) in February this year released an audit report on the Covid-19 funds.
The Audit report contains serious financial mismanagement of Covi-19 funds by the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the Ministry of Health & Medical Services.
