GOVERNMENT will upgrade the National Auditorium at Art Gallery at a cost of $60million and is expected to be much bigger.
Art Gallery curator Brian Afia revealed this on Wednesday.
The current National Art Gallery was built during the Pacific Arts Festival hosted by Solomon Islands in 2012.
Mr Afia said the size of the new auditorium is expected to be twice the current auditorium.
“The current DCC government has allocated about $60m for the expansion and upgrading of this auditorium.
“Prime Minister Office (PMO) has already briefed us about this and shortly after Parliament settles down ground work should start off,” Mr Afia said.
Once work on the new auditorium kicks off most of the buildings at Art Gallery will be demolished, he said.
The curator yesterday thanked the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare for its commitment to upgrade the auditorium.
