THE Lau Mbaelelea electorate biggest sporting event, named after their Member of Parliament (MP) Augustine Auga kicked off on Monday at Arao playing ground in Northwest Mbaelelea.
The Auga Sports Tournament started with an official opening parade witnessed by the Honourable Auga and representatives from the Malaita Football Association.
The Sports Tournament for this year includes two sports, soccer and volleyball.
Reports reaching Star Sports in Auki claimed that Netball should also be part of the tournament but was called due to lack of Netball facility by the hosting authority.
A total of 48 teams will be competing for the top four prizes on offer in the football tournament.
The teams are pooled in 8 pools, six teams in each pool.
Only the two best teams in each pool will progress to the next round of 24.
While soccer is strictly for men and boys, volleyball on the other hand is strictly for women and girls.
The Auga 2022 Sports Tournament is expected to end on Friday December 30th with the prize presentation for winning teams.
Auga Sports Tournament is an annual sporting event that the people of Lau Mbaelelea electorate in Malaita are looking forward to each festive session.
