POLICE in Auki, Malaita Province have arrested three people in relation to the burning down of the agriculture office in Auki early this week.
Police commander Alfred Uiga said after thorough investigations immediately after the incident on Monday, police were given leads which led to the arrests.
“And during the course of our investigation, we retrieved some items stolen from the office before the torching occurred.
One of the items recovered was a photo-copy machine.
The machine was removed before the building was burnt.
Some men attempted to sell it to a man who runs an electronic shop at the Auki Plaza ground floor.
The man told the police some men brought the machine to his shop and asked him to buy it for $5000.
Mr Uiga said they are hoping to arrest more suspects as investigation continues.
The reason for burning down the office is still sketchy.
Mr Uiga urged the public in Auki to help police in investigations, in order to bring those responsible to face justice.
He thanked the electronic shop owner for tipping police about the attempt sale of the machine which led police to the arrests.
