MALAITA Provincial government’s Minister for Lands and Planning, Mr. Martin Fini says most buildings constructed in Auki town fail to meet the Auki town country planning board’s development plan.
He said not only that but also the developers failed to meet the legal processes of acquiring land in Auki, before constructing buildings.
He stated this during an exclusive interview with the Solomon star.
Mr. Fini said his office are aware that individuals usually go direct to commissioner of lands and obtain land title and building permit, without the knowledge of Auki Town and Country Planning Board (ATCPB).
He describes such dealings as daylight corruption in the upper level.
He stressed that it is a must for Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey (MLHS) to respect Auki town and country planning board, by consulting them before granting plots of land to any applicant.
“Most of the buildings built in Auki are not meeting the standard recommended by ATCPB requirements,” he express in disappointment.
“Ministry of land must respect Malaita Provincial government and the ATCPB on any development that may take place in Auki.”
“I believe there are number of unlawful dealings continuing in the ministry of lands,” Mr. Fini alleged.
Hence, he called on Ministry of Lands to respect and work together Malaita provincial government Authorities.
More so, in a recent consultation meeting between Solomon water and Malaita province stakeholders, Provincial Deputy Secretary Mr. Robert Wales was concern over the current building development located inside Solomon water bore holes catchment area in Auki.
He said Auki town and country planning board need to consider such development to preserve the area from contamination.
