DRIVERS in Auki, Malaita’s provincial capital, are urged to take responsibility while on the road.
The call came in light of increasing number of road accidents in the past months.
Resident Peter Maniasi said Auki is a very small town that does not require drivers moving at high speed.
“I’m call on all drivers both within the township and those coming into town from north and east Malaita to exercise care and be responsible while behind the wheels,” Mr Maniasi said.
“This is a very small town and the roads are not that good,” he added.
“Drivers should be using their common sense while driving within the town area.
“The increasing number of road accidents over the past months speaks volume of the level of carelessness demonstrated by drivers,” Mr Maniasi said.
He said as the township moves towards polling day, there’ll be lots of people moving in and out of Auki.
“Therefore drivers must exercise care while driving.
“The last thing we expect at this time is someone being killed by a careless driver.”
