Malaita premier Peter Ramohia says his government did not issue a license to a newly opened cyber world online internet gaming facility at provincial capital Auki.
The recently opened facility had raised a few eye-brows as well as on social media discussions in the Malaita Forum Facebook page.
“I don’t know who issued the company a license to operate the facility here,” he told the Sunday Star.
“We will bring this up during in our executive meeting this month to ensure the interests of Malaitans are protected,” he added.
He said any decisions made at the executive level will be acted upon.
Auki Asi Association chairman Jethro Siru said the owner of the facility was an Asian.
“We don’t want this kind of business operations here because it’s a gaming facility that will result in many people losing their money,” Siru said.
He added the facility and the way it operates was no different for a casino.
“I don’t think this is a good investment for Malaita.
“I urged the provincial government to revoke their business licence and kicked them out.
“Malaita needs investments that bring tangible benefits to the people, not the kind that rob them oftheir hard earned savings.”
Owner of the facility consistently refused to talk to the Sunday Star.
