THE Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki, Malaita Province has called off a search for the missing five people that traveled from Guadalcanal to Russell Islands last Saturday.
This week, Auki Police conducted a search to try to locate the missing people but could not sight any of them.
After three days of searching, the Police had to cancel the search Wednesday this week.
Information reaching this paper claimed a boat heading from Tambea in Guadalcanal to Russell sank and did not make it to its intended destination.
Information obtained claimed that the skipper of the boat and a four-year-old survived while five others went missing and are yet to be seen.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) for Malaita Province Inspector, Stanley Riolo said his office in Auki received a call from the Police Headquarters in Honiara to help in a search for the missing five this week.
PPC Riolo said his officers have conducted a search in the Northern region of Malaita towards Ndai Island this week, but could not locate any of the missing people.
He said there is a possibility that the strong current could carry the missing people towards the Northern side of Malaita, but that prospect of finding the missing five in the waters of Malaita has brushed aside after police searched the area.
