AUKI police in Malaita entered their fourth day of training yesterday in preparation of the upcoming national general elections.
The training was conducted to equip officers with skills and knowledge to prepare for law and order situation that may arise during the elections.
The training featured demonstrations on how to approach and disperse crowds in any circumstances or whenever a riot occurs.
Provincial police coordinator Tex Tafoa, who facilitated the training, said that the sessions are to prepare the force for their election duties.
“This is to equip the officers with necessary skills so that they are confident in handling any public disorder,” Mr Tafoa said.
“As we approach this very important event, it’s is necessary to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances.
“This is not only for the national election but to prepare the officers with necessary skills to handle any public disorder that might occur,” he added.
Mr Tafoa said he hopes the training with give the officers the confidence they need in their role as police officers.
Twenty-three police officers and 11 officers from the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) in Auki were engaged in the training.
The training concludes today.
