POLICE in Auki has refuted a media report of an ‘armed group’ led by M4D currently doing military-style training for a planned second wave of attack in Honiara following the burning and looting last month.
Auki Police Operation Commander Inspector Michael Ramosaea confirmed this to Solomon Star Auki yesterday that the media report is misleading.
Inspector Ramosaea said Auki police is only aware of a community policing group that is currently in training in Auki to help police protect the township this festive season from unlawful behaviors.
“There is no such thing like an armed group doing training in Auki led by M4D towards a second wave of attack in Honiara as stated in the media recently.
“We are only aware of a group of volunteers who are currently undergoing training in Auki to help protect Auki town after what happened in Honiara.
“This group are members of community policing groups in Auki and surrounding communities. They are not heavily armed or armed at all,” he said.
He added, this week the group assisted police in dealing with crime in Auki which resulted in the successful arrest and confiscation of kwaso and marijuana from Auki town.
Inspector Ramosaea said police encourages such undertakings with genuine intention to help with law and order in Auki.
He said the number of police officers in Malaita is inadequate; therefore working together with public volunteers who are willing to support police for a good course is welcoming and should not be seen in a negative way.
With that, Mr Ramosaea has appealed to the media not to come up with stories that are not true which can cause panic and hatred.
