THE multi-million-dollar Auki Road Tar Sealing Project, funded by the People’s Republic of China(PRC), has commenced with survey work.
The survey conducted by the project contractor, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), started last week.
The survey team comprises three CCECC and two local survey experts.
A member of the CCECC team, Wang Cheng Liang informed the Solomon Star that the road survey work for the Auki Tar Sealing Project has been ongoing for four days now.
“Our surveying work has been ongoing for four days, and our geological survey team will start working later this week. Currently, our team consists of three Chinese and two local members.”
Mr Wang said the design team is expected to arrive in Auki this week to collaborate with the Malaita Provincial Government.
“Four designers will come to Auki to communicate with the staff of the Malaita Provincial Government and begin the design work.”
Mr Wang said their construction team plans to set up a project camp next month and mobilization work will commence immediately thereafter.
The CCECC survey team is assessing the road network from the Kilu’ufii Hospital to the Kwaibala Bridge.
This survey is expected to take approximately 15 working days. This will be the first CCECC project in Malaita Province.
Established in 1979 by the Chinese Government, CCECC has extensive experience in major international projects.
In Solomon Islands, the company successfully built seven sports facilities for last year’s Pacific Games, including the national stadium, an Olympic-standard aquatic center, a six-court tennis center, a full-size athletics training facility, a multi-purpose sports hall and additional facilities.
Among CCECC’s significant projects is the $120 million Solomon Islands National University Panatina Project, which includes a three-story Teaching Block, a Lecture Theater Block, an Atrium and Forecourt Block and various civil works such as new roads, car parks, drainage, sewage systems, and landscaping.
This marks an exciting new chapter for CCECC as they embark on their first venture in Malaita Province.
